想像以上に堅調なストーリーでよくできた作品。日本ではPCゲームほぼシミュレーションゲームになるので、なかなかBlizzard社のゲームは普及しない。今後変わる気配もないが、知名度の上昇ぐらいは成し遂げた気がした。

このシリーズは一週まわて、またBryan Singerが監督することになってから、初心を取り戻すというか、原点回帰というか、面白くなったがアイディアも古くなった。やはり、スーパーヒーロー物は定番劇が一番だというのは今回確信できた。

ドイツ人のエメリッヒ監督、不思議にも何本かのアメリカ愛満載な映画を作っていた。しかもどれもそのジャンルの物としてしっかり作られていて、見て損する気分にはならない。。。欠点を無視すれば、の話だけどね。
個人的には、ホワイトハウス・ダウンはアクション映画としてシンプルで面白くて、暇だったら何回でも見れるけど、インディペンデンス・デーはなぜか一回見れば十分だと思った。ストーリー上に色々あったけど、どれもその場でその場の雰囲気だけ出しといて、深く考えさせるようなもの一つもなかった。
ある意味、「遊び心」と「期待感」を最大限に持って、一回見ればおしまいの「使い捨て」映画だ。

話のベースとなる設定はグチャグチャだけと、それを深く考えずに、リラックスしながら見るのか一番良いでしょう。もしろその方が色々楽しめる。
なぜかというと、目の前に起きている「映像」に対して、時にそれを信じるように暗示をかけたり、時にそれを疑えと促したり、監督のコントロールはとにかく半端ない。もちろんそれは、観客と主人公の主観を同期させるための技に間違いない。
見どころをまとめると、こうな感じでしょう：
- 可愛女の子の主人公と男二人の共同生活、意外と健康的。。
- ストーリーが進むと、「やっぱり」が来たの五分後にまだ「やっぱりそうじゃないな」になるとか。。
- 主人公の戦闘力の半端なさ。。（火炎瓶の威力に脱帽。。）
- エンディングの意味について衆説ありなので、ぜひご注目を。。

アメリカ映画というより、どこにでもあるような発展途上国におけるお馬鹿さん映画。１回見るだけてスタッフの工夫を全部解読できるぐらいにペラペラ。
典型的な体育系人間がメインで手掛けたような作りで、なんと監督はイラン出身。。。どう褒めたら良いのか。。さっさとシャワーして寝たろ！（快去洗洗睡吧！）
